THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
--
MESSAGE to the 37th UNITED NATIONS INTER-AGENCY GAMES
Bad Kleinkirchheim, 1 October 2009

I offer my warm greetings to all participants in the 37th United Nations Inter-Agency Games.

The involvement of so many staff members from across the UN system demonstrates a laudable spirit of teamwork that I hope you will take back to your duty stations after the Games have ended.  I encourage you to maintain the friendships and sense of camaraderie that the Games foster when you return to your jobs.

Above all, I hope you enjoy the invigorating events that you have planned, and leave with a renewed resolve to advance the goals of the United Nations for the sake of all our world’s inhabitants.  And finally, at this busy time in world affairs, be sure to have some fun!

The Vienna-based Organizations are happy to announce that the 37th United Nations Inter-Agency Games (UNIAG) will be held in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria from 1 to 5 October 2009.

Bad Kleinkirchheim is situated in the province of Carinthia near the southern part of the Alps (www.badkleinkirchheim.at). This area is well known for hosting international sporting events. It is also a thermal spa region and all hotels will be situated in one area. The disciplines will be held in two main locations with a maximum distance of 8 kilometres between each other, and adequate transportation between the disciplines and hotels.

The purpose of the UNIAG is to enable the staff members of the agencies and organizations of the United Nations System to get to know each other through sports meetings and thereby to improve mutual understanding and working relations.

We look forward to the representation of your respective organization or agency and to the participation in competitions by active and retired staff members. We wish you all successful planning for your teams and look forward to welcoming you to Austria.

Please note that 1 October is the expected date of arrival and opening ceremony. The games themselves will take place on 2 to 4 October, with the gala evening taking place on 4 October. The expected departure date is 5 October.
